Thattekad Bird sanctuary

A faunal survey has introduced nine new species to the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary in the Ernakulam District of Kerala. This sanctuary, the first of its kind in Kerala, is acknowledged as one of the most ecologically rich zones in the Western Ghats. The forest types found here include Tropical Evergreen Forests, Tropical Semi-evergreen Forests, Moist Deciduous Forests, Riparian Forests, and plantations of Teak, Rosewood, Mahogany, and Fruit Orchards. The Periyar and Idamalayar rivers flow through this area. The sanctuary is home to various fauna, including the Leopard, Sloth Bear, and Porcupine.
