Indian Oil entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air India to provide sustainable aviation fuel.
About Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
• Alternative fuel derived from non-petroleum feedstocks that helps in reducing emissions from air travel.
• Can be mixed with conventional aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel) up to 50%, based on availability.
• India has mandated a 1% SAF blending in jet fuel for international airlines starting in 2027.
• Raw materials include corn grain, oil seeds, algae, various fats, oils, and greases, agricultural residues, forestry residues, wood mill waste, and wastewater treatment sludge.
