News Context

Riverbank erosion is being addressed by planting Kanchan trees. The world's largest river island is located in the Brahmaputra River. In 2016, it became India's first river island district. It is formed by the Brahmaputra River to the south and the Kherkutia Xuti and Subansiri River to the north. The area is encircled by wetlands and small islets known as "Chaporis".
