Arctic Biome ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

Wildfires worldwide are diminishing the Earth's ability to absorb carbon. This is particularly evident in regions north of the Arctic Circle (66° 33'N), which encompass parts of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Russia. A key feature of these areas is the presence of permafrost. The vegetation here lacks deep root systems and includes mosses, lichens, dwarf shrubs, grasses, and sedges.
