About C-FLOOD

A web-based platform offers 2-day advance flood inundation forecasts down to the village level. It employs advanced 2-D hydrodynamic modelling to provide flood inundation maps and water level predictions, enhancing disaster preparedness. The platform is significant as it serves as a unified system that integrates flood modelling outputs from both national and regional agencies. It has been jointly developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). The execution falls under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), which was initiated in 2015 to enhance India’s supercomputing capabilities. This mission is jointly led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Currently, the platform covers the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins, with plans to expand to all river basins across India. The forecasts will be integrated with the National Disaster Management Emergency Response Portal (NDEM).
