Genesis: Founded in 2011 to execute the National Solar Mission.
About: A Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It is the designated Renewable Energy Implementing Agency (REIA) for MNRE initiatives.
Operates as a Category-1 (highest) power trading licensee under the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
Implementation of Special Programmes and Regional Models: Initiatives include the Greening of Islands (such as Lakshadweep and A&N Islands) and developing high-altitude grid-linked capacity (for instance, a proposed 5 GW in Ladakh).
Recent Achievements: SECI has completed over 60 Gigawatts of Power Sale Agreements (PSAs) for renewable energy capacity.
