News Context

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa's largest hydroelectric power (HEP) project, has been completed in Ethiopia. It is situated on a major tributary of the Nile River. This tributary flows into Sudan, where it converges with the White Nile to form the Nile River at Khartoum. The river originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia and traverses both Ethiopia and Sudan.
