Chenab River ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

The Forest Advisory Committee has given an 'in-principle' approval for the diversion of forest land for the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project (HEP). The river originates from the Bara Lacha Pass and is formed by the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers. It is the largest tributary of the Indus River, joining the Indus at Mithankot, Pakistan. The Jhelum River merges with the Chenab River near Jhang in Pakistan. Its tributaries include Miyar Nalla, Sohal, Thirot, Bhut Nalla, Marusudar, and Lidrari.
