International Blue Flag Certification ( UPSC Prelims)

Five beaches in MaharashtraShrivardhan, Nagaon, Parnaka, Guhagar, and Ladghar—have been honored with the esteemed International Blue Flag Certification. This is a globally recognized eco-label given to beaches, marinas, and tourism boats. India boasts a total of 18 beaches with this certification, with the highest number located in Maharashtra. The certification is based on stringent criteria in areas such as accessibility, education, environmental performance, responsible behavior, safety, services, stakeholder engagement, and water quality. The award is presented by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) of Denmark, which has been doing so since 1985. To qualify, beaches must meet 33 criteria related to cleanliness, beauty, and environmental sustainability.
